Disney Channel’s ‘Descendants’ Has Found Its Maleficent + New Plot Details!

We know that the Disney Channel’s upcoming Original Movie Descendants will feature some familiar Disney characters and their offspring, and now we know who will play some of them! Yesterday (May 1), Disney announced Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth to play Sleeping Beauty villain Maleficent, who they say will be nothing like Angelina Jolie’s interpretation of the witchy character.

Descendants will also star Liv and Maddie’s Dove Cameron as Maleficent’s daughter, Mal, Twilight actor Booboo Stewart as Aladdin villain Jafar’s son, Jay, and Grown Ups actor Cameron Boyce as Cruella de Ville’s son, Carlos.

The Hollywood Reporter unveiled new details about the plot along with today’s exciting announcement: “Descendants is set in a present-day idyllic kingdom, with the benevolent teenage son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle), Ben, poised to take the throne. His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil (Carlos), Maleficent (Mal), the Evil Queen (Evie) and Jafar (Jay), who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with the other villains, sidekicks, evil stepmothers and stepsisters.”

Can’t wait for what these talented actors have in store for us! Who are you most excited to see?

Nick Jonas Set To Return To TV With Co-Starring Role In DirecTV’s New MMA Drama ‘Navy St.’

Nick Jonas

For the first time since the Disney Channel’s Jonas and Jonas L.A., Nick Jonas will be taking off his guest star hat and heading back to the small screen full time!

According to a story by The Hollywood Reporter, Nick is set to co-star in DirecTV’s Navy St., a gritty, family drama centered around a mixed martial arts gym in Venice, CA called Navy Street, run by Alvey Henderson (played by Frank Grillo), “a former fighter whose drug addiction prevented him from making it big.”

Nick will be playing Alvey’s son, Nate Henderson, a “shy kid who receives a UFC contract,” and is, subsequently, his “father’s pride and joy,” all while dealing with the impact of the addiction issues of his older brother, Jay (played by Jonathan Tucker), with whom he lives.

Kiele Sanchez, formerly of A&E’s The Glades, sits top-bill with Nick, and will be playing Lisa Prince, Alvey’s long-time girlfriend.

Production is set to begin May 5 in Los Angeles on a total of ten episodes and will air on DirecTV’s Audience Network in the fall. We can’t wait to find out more about this exciting new project for him! In the meantime, we’ll keep counting down the days until the season finale of Hawaii Five-0, where Nick will reprise his role as evil mastermind Ian Wright!

What do you think about this role for Nick? Can you see him as an MMA fighter? Just take a look at his healthy living selfie once again up there — we rest our case!

Selena Gomez: “Music Is Very Vain… Film Keeps Me Sane” — Watch ‘Rudderless’ Cast Chat With ‘THR’!

Selena Gomez and her Rudderless co-stars William H. Macy (who makes his directorial debut with the film) and Billy Crudup sat down for interviews with major press outlets at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Monday (January 20th).

While Selena talked about her “heavy” role in the film with Entertainment Weekly, she opened up even more to The Hollywood Reporter at the cast’s Fireside Chat at Rock & Reilly’s about one crucial difference she perceives between music and film.

“If I can be very honest, I think music is very vain,” she admitted, “and it tends to just be about one person all the time.” She went on to praise the “family aspect” of coming together with a cast to make a movie “great,” and even went as far as to say that the experience is what “keeps [her] sane”.

Sounds like Selena is definitely interested in pursuing acting more and more in the future, even though we know she still has a special place in her heart for music and will, no doubt, keep making it for all of us to enjoy!

Check out the full interview below for more details on the movie, the shoot, and watch the cast try their luck at a very interesting ring toss game:
