After actress/singer Zendaya stepped down off the future role to play late singer Aaliyah, the Lifetime movie was placed on hold. Then Alexandra Shipp stepped up for the role and the movie was back on.

Aaliyah fans were not sure if Shipp could pull off the role of Aaliyah because they didn’t think she resembled her enough. Despite what fans think, Lifetime feels that Shipp is the right fit. And judging by the newly released pics below, she definitely is.

Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B will premiere Saturday Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.

Zendaya Coleman recently stepped down from playing Aaliyah in an upcoming Lifetime movie. Today it was revealed that Alexandra Shipp will be playing the role instead. Zendaya Will Not Be Portraying Aaliyah–Found Out Why!!


It has been revealed today that Zendaya will not be portraying the R&B artist Aaliyah as previously announced.  According to a report the Lifetime movie project has been possibly cancelled due to production issues and rights issues to Aaliyah’s music.

Zendaya’s rep confirmed that she is no longer associated with the project. A source close to the project said “Aaliyah has always been an inspiration to Zendaya, She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right.”

After producing a Whitney Houston tribute, Lifetime has decided to produce an Aaliyah tribute. Playing the role of Aaliyah will be the incredibly talented Zendaya Coleman. Zendaya’s fame really started on the Disney Channel show “Shake It Up” and since then she’s been growing including her appearance on “Dancing With The Stars”.
