The Vamps Talk Demi Lovato & Bullies With ‘PressParty’

The Vamps’ drummer, Tristan Evans, recently sat down with ‘PressParty’ and chatted about working with Demi Lovato, dealing with bullies, meeting 5SOS, and more! Check out their interview with “PP” below and be sure to catch them on a world tour next year. 2015 is set to be a big year for The Vamps!!

You’ve been doing a lot of international travel lately, have you been getting recognised in different places you’ve visited?

I guess so, yeah. It’s so nice to go to another country and to be recognised there past social media. We’re so lucky to have such an amazing fan base and to travel to these places, let alone have fans waiting for us there.

Your new single, ‘Somebody To You’, features Demi Lovato. How did the collaboration come about?

Well, we worked with the same producers as Demi and we were like, ‘oh we really want a feature for this song’, and she was around. Then she recorded her vocals and just thrashed it. She was great. She’s so beautiful – it’s great to have her in the video. She added something different – a different story. We didn’t actually shoot at the same time as her – she shot her parts a week later on the same beach.

It was recently ‘Stop Cyberbullying Week’, have you guys ever had to deal with negativity online? Do you have any advice for fans who might be dealing with cyberbullying?

Yeah, we get hate on Twitter, but you have to ignore it and get over it. You have to do that on Twitter or you just get caught up on negatives. People who are nasty on Twitter don’t have anything better to do in real life, that’s the way they express themselves. In real life they’re probably insecure so you’ve got to bear that in mind. It’s important to just ignore it.

Guitarist James McVey recently revealed that you’ve started work on your second album! How far along are you with the project and how is it shaping up so far?

We’re always constantly writing and producing together, and we’re like a team the way we’re doing it. We probably have… yeah, we definitely have. We’re just experimenting. It’s probably going to be a little bit different! We’re just having fun at the moment, but then we’ll go into the studio and get other producers involved, which is going to be great.

You recently performed for 80,000 at the Capital FM Summertime Ball, which took place at Wembley Stadium. How was that?

That was a dream come true. Wembley Stadium… It was actually the most fun I’ve had on stage… the energy and you look down at the crowd and it’s just overwhelming seeing 80,000 people looking up at you. Very weird!

We hung out with 5 Seconds Of Summer a little bit. It was great to finally meet them, they’re really cool guys and we’ve been checking them out for a while now; they’re absolutely killing it. It was great to meet them. We hung out with Little Mix for a bit, and Austin Mahone ‘cause we’re going on tour with him in the summer. Austin’s really, really cool. He’s just a cool dude, we’re really looking forward to touring with him in August.

When you tour the U.S. in support of Austin Mahone, you’ll also be on the road with Fifth Harmony. Have you had the pleasure of meeting the girls yet and are you looking forward to touring America?

No, this will be the first time (touring in the USA). It’ll be like a big road trip. The girls are lovely – we met them at the RDMAs and they’re so nice. We spoke to Lauren (Jauregui) a lot on the day, we got on really well. They’re really nice girls.

We’re looking foward to just walking off the bus and breathing in the fresh air, being able to say you’ve toured America a little bit. Hanging out with Fifth Harmony and Austin Mahone, playing the shows. We’re so excited about it.

Do you think people still have the impression of you being a boyband?

I think the image is changing… real fans know that we’re all very hands on and we’re all heavily involved in the music and what we do. Anyone that says we’re a manufactured boyband… I don’t think they really know what’s going on.

So, @TheVampsCrewUK wants to know If you could support anyone dead or alive, who would it be?

Um, god… hmm. The Beatles. Obviously the classics, like ‘Let It Be’ and stuff. James is a big Beatles fan.

@CurlyBrvdley asked what’s the best and worst thing about being in the spotlight?

Best thing is… hmm. You can express your creativity and it gets out there and people know what you’re doing. The worst? People don’t see the work you put in – they just see the finished music video on TV and assume it’s all just super fun, which it is, but it’s also a lot of hard work.

We had another fan question from @BeanMcVey, who wants to know if you weren’t in the Vamps, what would you be doing?

I’d try to be a professional producer. I produced some of our stuff and try to get involved as much as possible!

@TroylersNugget wondered what the best part of working with Demi Lovato was?

The way she portrays herself and her attitude towards music is so lovely, she’s just such a nice person. It’s really just a breath of fresh air to work with someone who’s really grounded.

What are you listening to at the moment?

At the moment… Dan and Shay… and Florida Georgia Line. James is really getting me into country music. All of those, they’re awesome.

You’re heading out on a full UK Tour later this autumn, are you excited for it?

We’ve got our UK tour in September… super excited. We’ve got a lot of surprises for our fans. It’s going to be so good and so fun. It’ll be the first time we’ve had a stage where it’s our stage and just our crowd. It’ll be so much fun.
